Lieberman renews plan for land swaps and 'transfer' of Palestinians

November 28, 2014 at 10:17 am

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said towns in northern Israel which have a high Arab population should be included in a future Palestinian state in the framework of a final solution.

Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported: “Lieberman will once again showcase his political plan to the EU foreign ministers at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland, next week.”

According to the newspaper, Lieberman will stress that the right-wing Jewish Home party is ready to surrender areas in the framework of a comprehensive regional peace plan.

Lieberman’s plan would “apply the principle of land and population swaps in the framework of a solution put forward to the country’s Arab citizens, especially in the areas of the Triangle and Wadi Ara.”

He believes the plan would allow Arab Israelis who do not show their solidarity with the State of Israel to become part of a Palestinian state. The Triangle and Wadi Ara are home to some 300,000 Arab Israelis.

More than 1.6 million Arabs live in Israel, and the Palestinian leadership has repeatedly stressed that the Arab population in Israel reject Lieberman’s plan.

Renewed talk of Lieberman’s plan comes days after the Israeli government’s approval of the draft Jewish-state law, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “the aim of this law is to guarantee the future of the Jewish people on its land”.
