Palestinian MP calls on PA to stop banning the resistance

December 4, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Second Deputy Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Hassan Khreisheh yesterday called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to clarify its position regarding freedoms violations and the banning of “resistance weapons”.

Palestinian news agency Safa reported Khreisheh saying that the PA should the stop “violation of public freedoms under fake pretexts”.

He also called for stopping political detentions and going after the Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank as well as to refrain from dealing with the resistance’s weapons as “illegal”.

The senior MP, who has been in office since 1996 when the PLC was created, stressed that the PA uses old and invalid laws to find pretexts to chase the Palestinian resistance and violate public freedoms in the West Bank.

Khreisheh said the PA was intentionally marginalising the PLC to stop it monitoring the organisation’s violations.

He added that political detentions have not stopped in the West Bank and they have become the “fate” of Palestinians, organisations and anyone who supports the resistance and does not agree with the position of the PA.
