Al-Zahar: Fatah is behind the delay in reconstructing Gaza

December 10, 2014 at 11:51 am

Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Al-Zahar accused Fatah of “considering Hamas an enemy rather than a political opponent”.

In his press release, Al-Zahar held Fatah responsible for the “siege on the Gaza Strip”, saying that Fatah is hindering the entry of construction materials while Israel is allowing it.

He added that Fatah is also responsible for the catastrophe suffered by Palestinians, including deterring resistance, reconstruction and the reconciliation. He described this as “the reaction to the Palestinian public’s abandonment of the movement and its defeat in the municipal and legislative elections.”

The prominent Hamas leader also accused Fatah of “taking the Palestinian cause back to square one,” warning against the dangerous political actions taken by Fatah in the West Bank. He said that this dangerous action is Fatah’s “adoption of a resistance agenda in the West Bank used to resist the resistance while it cooperates with the occupation against the resistance.”

Al-Zahar condemned the security cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and Israel describing it as a “national disgrace”.

He said: “Fatah has transformed from a Palestinian liberation project to a project protecting and expanding settlements.” He said that PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ approach of the UN Security Council to end the Israeli occupation is “a distraction” because “Abbas has an agenda and he knows there is no use going to the Security Council”.
