Egypt denies entry to US researcher

December 13, 2014 at 1:08 pm

Egyptian authorities has barred a US researcher from entering the country for “security reasons” and sent her back to Frankfurt in Germany, a security source said Saturday.

Michele Dunne, a former US diplomat, arrived at Cairo International Airport late Friday from Istanbul, but was denied entry after her name was found on the airport’s watch list, the source said.

The source said that Dunne was deported to Frankfurt, giving no further details.

Dunne, a senior associate in Carnegie’s Middle East Program, confirmed that she had been denied entry by Egyptian authorities.

“Some Egyptians complain I don’t list enough pro-government views. When I accept an invite to a conference of a pro-government group, they deny me entry. Go figure,” she wrote on Twitter.
