Arab sports council calls on FIFA to stop Israeli violations against Palestinians

December 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm

The president of the Arab Sports Council is to call on FIFA President Sepp Blatter to use his position to put pressure on Israel to stop its violations against Palestinian sportsmen and women. Prince Talan bin Badr bib Abdulaziz is also the Chairman of the Union of Arab Olympic Committees. In his approach to the FIFA chief he will be acting on behalf of the Islamic Union and the Union of Arab Football Associations as well as his own organisations.

According to the head of the Palestine Olympic Committee, General Jibril Rajoub, the prince will highlight Israeli intransigence in such matters. The Palestinians are calling for football’s ruling body to take a firm stand and impose sanctions against Israel if it insists on breaching international laws and the Olympic Charter. The ASC president is due to meet Blatter in Morocco on 17 December.

The Action Committee to improve Palestinian sports was scheduled to convene in Morocco on the same date in the presence of Blatter and the Chairman of the Asian Football Confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim as well as the president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Michel Platini. The meeting has been postponed at FIFA’s request.
