Cairo police briefly detained three men, including two Britons, after a man told them he overheard them talking about ways to destabilise the country during the upcoming anniversary of the revolution, AP reported.

A brother and sister, both dual British-Egyptian nationals, and their cousin were apprehended at an underground station on Saturday night after a passenger told police they were speaking in English about burning homes and businesses on the anniversary of the January 2011 uprising.

The three denied the accusations and the case was referred to the prosecutor, an official, who refused to be named, said.

The British nationals were given consular assistance and were later released. It is unclear if they Egyptian national had also been released.
