Sana Abdul-Jawad, the wife of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Beltagy, who lost her daughter Asmaa during the Rabaa Al-Adawiya massacre on 14 August, 2013, shared her heartbreaking story of grief, patience and shared pain on Facebook.

Sana wrote on Facebook “I was on my way back from visiting my daughter’s grave to beg for her forgiveness because nearly a year and a half has passed and those who killed her and dozens of our young men and women have not been held accountable, when I entered a mosque to perform my prayer. In the mosque I was amused by the sight of a woman who prayed so feverishly to God.”

She continued: “I approached the woman and asked her to pray to God to grant me patience to tolerate my daughter’s departure. The woman replied with a Syrian accent that she lost her sister, mother, brother and nephew in the war before bursting into tears.”

“I was ashamed of myself and joined her in her prayer calling on God to take justice from every unjust ruler who betrays and slaughters his own people.”
