Ennahda will cooperate with any president of Tunisia

The Ennahda party will cooperate with the next president whoever he is because he is because he is chosen by the people, the party’s President Rashid Ghannouchi said.

In an interview with Tunisia’s Nessma TV channel on Tuesday, Ghannouchi pointed out that Ennahda’s supporters voted in the first round of elections for Salem Chaibi from the Popular Congress Party, Mustapha Ben Jaafar from the Labour and Liberties party and Beji Caid Essebsi of Nidaa Tounes but the majority of them voted for Moncef Marzouki.

Ghannouchi said the Nidaa Tounes party members did not attract voters because they used intimidation in their speeches.

He denied claims that his party’s decision not to nominate a candidate for the presidential elections indicates their withdrawal from the election, stressing that the most suitable president is the one who can unite the people around him.

Commenting on the resignation of the movement’s Secretary-General Hamadi Jebali, Ghannouchi said that “differences are normal” noting that the movement “understands Jebali’s reasons while its doors will always remain open for his return”.

Ghannouchi called on Tunisians to resort to tolerance and harmony, pointing out that political isolation policy led to fighting in Libya and Iraq.
