Palestinian faction criticises changes to UN Palestinian bid

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) on Sunday criticised the changes made to the Palestinian bid at the UN Security Council. The proposed bid calls on the UN to adopt a timetable for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and a return to 1967 borders.

In a statement, DFLP called for an immediate meeting of the Supreme Palestinian National Committee to reach a collective view on a united political and resistance strategy.

DFLP said that discussions surrounding the Palestinian bid and the changes made to it pose a danger to the Palestinian issue and the legitimate and inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people.

The leftist Palestinian faction, which falls under the umbrella of the PLO, criticised the changes relating to Jerusalem, refugees, the right of return, Israeli settlements and other issues.

“These changes destroy the political basis for the Palestinian bid and turn it into an obligation for absurd negotiations and a waste of time,” a DFLP statement said.

Reinforcing the need for a national consensus, DFLP warned of the repercussion of violating the national agreement, failing to face Israeli stubbornness and taking the side of American support for Israel.

The Palestinian Authority bid, which calls for ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands occupied in 1967, faced wide criticism from PLO factions last Wednesday. These factions mainly blamed the latest French and EU changes made to the bid.

One of the main terms criticised by PLO factions was that which refers to Jerusalem as a capital for two states: Palestine and Israel. The factions also refused talks without international guarantees.
