Head of UNSC: No discussion of Palestinian bid until end of the year

December 24, 2014 at 12:29 pm

“There will be no discussions [regarding the Palestinian bid] in the UNSC until the end of the year”, the head of the UN Security Council and Chad’s Permanent Representative to the UN Mahamat Zene Cherif said yesterday.

Speaking to journalists, he said: “There are no discussions until the end of the year, but there might be talks among the representatives of the member states.”

His remarks indicate that there is unlikely to be a vote on the bid this year.

Last week, Jordan filed the Palestinian bid to the UNSC on behalf of the Arab group in the organisation. The bid demands Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian lands occupied in 1967.

Spokeswoman of the US Department of State Jennifer Psaki said Washington would not support the bid.
