An employee at Gaza’s municipality found $30,000 while he was watering trees near a plant nursery on Salah Eddin Street, south of Gaza City.

Jawad Mansour found the money on his way home from the municipality’s Holest Culture Centre. He was in the company of two other employees – Yousef Al-Jadba and Nayef Sukkar.

The group attempted to locate its owner by heading to the shops, mosque and a local factory.

An accountant who works at a 7 Up factory in the same area claimed ownership of the money.

The head of the Gaza municipality Nizar Higazy praised the honesty of the municipality’s employees, despite the difficult circumstances they are facing. He added that the municipality will hold a ceremony to honour the employees, who had worked hard throughout the Israeli attack on Gaza.

Higazy said that all Gaza’s municipality employees exert strenuous efforts, despite the shortage of facilities and resources, to develop the city, ensure that services continue to be provided to citizens and to keep the city clean and well-organised.
