Some 26,500 Jews immigrated to Israel in 2014, the highest number in a decade, a joint report released by the Jewish Agency and the Israeli Ministry of Immigration revealed yesterday.

The report said that some 20,000 immigrants had moved to Israel in previous years.

Who moved to Israel in 2014:

  • 7,000 people from France
  • 5,840 from Ukraine
  • 3,470 from the US
  • 700 people from the Caucasus and Central Asia
  • 232 from Eastern Europe
  • 200 from Australia and New Zealand

France topped the list of countries from which Jews left to move to Israel. Some 7,000 people moved from France, compared to 3,500 in 2013. The report said the number is expected to increase again in 2015 and will reach 10,000.

Some 5,840 Jews moved from Ukraine, the report revealed. This was attributed to the Crimea crisis between Ukraine and Russia.

The report revealed that half the migrants were under the age of 35, while 5,300 were children.
