Hamas condemns Egypt's killing of Palestinian

Senior Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouk said on Sunday that his movement condemns the killing of a Palestinian youth on the Gaza-Sinai border by Egyptian troops.

The death took place on Friday, when four Palestinians were confronted by Egyptian troops while attempting to cross the Gaza-Sinai border. Three surrendered to the Egyptian army and were taken into custody in Egypt while the third, 17-year-old Zaki al-Hobi, fled and was shot dead by Egyptian troops.

During a visit to the house of the deceased teen, Abu Marzouk said: “With no doubt, this is a regrettable incident. This is kind of treatment should not be among brothers.”

“Instead of such treatment, Egypt must remove the borders and open the crossings with Gaza,” he added, described the incident as “very big”.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the killing of a Palestinian teen on the border with Egypt.

Sinai police sources confirmed that Egyptian troops opened fire on a group of Palestinian youth who were trying to cross the border.

According to the Egyptian police in Sinai, the three Palestinians were taken into Egyptian custody had attempted to buy cigarettes from Egypt to sell in Gaza, which has been under strict Israeli-Egyptian siege for around eight years.
