A leader in Tunisia’s Ennahda party said that the movement does not have any objection to Habib Essid who was assigned by President Beji Caid Essebsi to form a new government.

“Ennahda does not have a problem with the appointment of Essid,” Abdellatif Mekki, a leading Ennahda member, said, adding that his movement is ready to cooperate with him.

With regards to whether the movement would support Essid in the parliament, Mekki said that it is too early to decide now since this would depend on the government line-up and programme.

Mekki said that Essid’s nomination comes in the context of Nidaa Tounes’s respect for the Tunisian constitution and protocols. The Nidaa Tounes party won the most seats in the Tunisian legislative election.
