The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its fleet will be deployed to the Gulf to support operations against the Islamic State (ISIS), Mer et Marine news site reported yesterday.

French President Francois Hollande is scheduled to announce the fleet’s deployment date when he gives his annual new year’s speech to the armed forces onboard the Charles de Gaulle off the coast of Toulon on 14 January, the site reported.

The fleet is expected to arrive in Toulon on 13 January.

Its mission is expected to continue until mid-May.

The reports could not be confirmed by the President’s office, army or navy.
