President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has invited Morocco’s King Mohamed VI to visit Egypt, the Royal Court has revealed. The king has directed his officials to make the necessary arrangements.

According to the official statement issued by the court, the invitation was passed verbally by Foreign Minister Sameh Shokri during a meeting at the Royal Palace in Fez. It was described as a “fraternal, affectionate and friendly message.” Shokri began a two-day visit to Morocco on Thursday.

“The king stressed the importance of the success of the Egyptian-Moroccan Committee, which is aimed at promoting bilateral relations in all fields,” the official statement said. The committee is to be given every resource to make sure that the visit is a success.

Egypt-Morocco relations have been tense recently due to various media comments. Egyptian television is accused of broadcasting “false” information about Morocco, while Moroccan news programmes describe Al-Sisi as a “coup leader” and Mohamed Morsi as the real elected president of Egypt.
