Houthis admit alliance with ousted President Saleh

January 22, 2015 at 12:42 pm

Member of the Houthis’ political bureau Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti yesterday admitted his group is in contact with ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Al-Bukhaiti wrote on his Facebook page that Saleh had phoned him more than 20 times since 21 September, 2013, when the Houthis raided the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

“Saleh gave pieces of advice about field military issues,” Al-Bukhaiti told Anadolu. “During his calls with me, I felt he used to send certain messages to certain people, who might have been spying, and I was not the party to whom he aimed his speech,” Al-Bukhaiti added.

He confirmed that there is a relationship between his group and Saleh’s group. “This is how politics works,” he said, noting that the Houthis had previously set up alliances with different groups and then worked to depose them, one such group is  the Muslim Brotherhood.
