Iranian MPs criticise FM for walking with Kerry

January 26, 2015 at 10:33 am

A number of Iran’s parliamentary members criticised Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for having a walk down Geneva’s streets with US Secretary of State John Kerry and for visiting France, calling the move a “diplomatic slip-up”.

According to the official Iranian news agency IRNA, 21 parliamentarians asked that Zarif be summoned to parliament for questioning.

In a public session held yesterday, MPs asked Zarif why he didn’t cancel his visit to France in response to the insults made by French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

They also questioned his walk with Kerry in Geneva, calling it a “diplomatic slip-up”.

“Your exhibitionist walk together with Kerry along Geneva’s sidewalks was certainly outside the norms of diplomacy, so why don’t you put a stop to such behaviour?” the 21 MPs said in a petition to summon Zarif to parliament.
