Israel bans Palestinian minister from leaving Gaza

January 27, 2015 at 12:09 pm

Israeli authorities yesterday prevented the Palestinian Minister for Housing and Public Work Mofeed Al-Hasayna from leaving the Gaza Strip, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Al-Hasayna was heading to the occupied Palestinian West Bank through the Erez crossing, an Israeli crossing through which the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip can travel to the West Bank.

He planned to meet his Jordanian counterpart Sami Halaseh who was visiting the West Bank and to participate in the fifth international energy conference.

In a statement, Al-Hasayna said: “The Israeli occupation authorities are still preventing Palestinian ministers from the Gaza Strip from moving to their offices in the West Bank. This undermines the ministers’ work.”

He said that he received an invitation from the Union of the Palestinian Engineers to attend the energy conference to be held in Ramallah today and tomorrow.

Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the issue, the Anadolu Agency said.
