Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Khaled Toukan said yesterday that the country’s research nuclear reactor will be completed by the end of the year.

The reactor will run for an experimental period of six months, he said.

During a meeting at the finance committee of the lower house, Toukan said that “80 per cent of the work on the $130 million nuclear reactor has been completed”.

He pointed out that work is under way to extract uranium in the north and south of the kingdom, noting that the country’s uranium reserves amounts to nearly 40,000 tonnes.
