Turkish construction companies have secured projects worth more than $260 billion in the 12 years since the Justice and Development Party won control of the government, the Anadolu Agency reported Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu saying.

Speaking at the Construction Industry Summit in the capital Ankara, Davutoglu said Turkish companies were only able to secure projects abroad worth $44 billion in the period between 1972 and 2002 which stresses the attention given by his party to the construction sector.

He pointed out that the Justice and Development Party constructed bridges, tunnels and fast trains, saying: “We are constructing the third bridge and the third airport in Istanbul now and work continues on the highway that connects the cities of Istanbul and Izmit.”

According to Davutoglu, the Turkish people are proud of the projects they carry out in Africa, pointing out that the conference hall project constructed in Equatorial Guinea in 2013 was described “Project of the Year”.
