Israel warns soldiers about Facebook kidnapping risk

February 5, 2015 at 9:49 am

Palestinian security website Al-Majd said Israel has warned its soldiers that Palestinian resistance movements are using social media to kidnap them, Al-Resalah newspaper reported yesterday.

Al-Majd reported the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom saying Israeli security departments warning that Palestinians use fake Facebook accounts with names of female Israeli soldiers to contact male soldiers.

The Palestinians, Israel Hayom said, do their best to persuade the Israeli soldiers to meet them in places where it is easy for them to be kidnapped.

According reports by the Israeli intelligence services, Palestinians also tried to persuade Israeli soldiers to offer intelligence information related to the movements of the Israeli army and its military bases as well as about field military commanders.

Based on intelligence analysis, the Palestinians are also trying to get “valuable” military pictures.

As a consequence, the Israeli intelligence service has launched a special unit to check the accounts of the Israeli female soldiers in order to guarantee that they do not post sensitive information about their military activities.

During the last Israeli war on Gaza, a number of soldiers posted secret information regarding the human losses on Facebook, this embarrassed the Israeli military and leadership.
