Head of Saudi's Shura Council visits Morocco

Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane yesterday received the head of the Saudi Shura Council Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Al Ash-Sheikh in a first official visit by a Saudi official to Morocco since the death of King Abdullah, the Anadolu Agency reported.

The officials, who met in the Moroccan capital Rabat, stressed the “importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Morocco to maintain regional security and stability and protect Arab countries from the major challenges they face,” a statement issued by the Moroccan government said.

According to the statement, the two officials emphasised the “historic, brotherly and deep-rooted relations that combine the Kingdoms of Morocco and Saudi Arabia under the wise leadership of their monarchs.”

They also discussed the importance of working jointly to address the major Arab issues and to support correct religious teachings.

During their meeting the officials stressed on the importance of developing joint economic, trade and investment relations which “would open developmental prospects for the two countries”.

The head of the Saudi Shura Council praised the political stability and economic take-off in Morocco, the statement added.
