The Emirati authorities released a Turkish businessman of Palestinian origin who was arrested last year but not charged.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Dr Amer Al-Shawa’s wife, Amal, said that the United Arab Emirates had released her husband after “unjustly” detaining him for 135 days. She said the UAE did not clarify why Amer was held. Amal added that her husband arrived in Turkey after he has been freed.

Amer had gone to the UAE on 2 October, 2014, to attend his nephew’s wedding; he was arrested upon his arrival at Dubai International Airport, and was later transferred to the capital Abu Dhabi where he remained in detention.
