Houthis declare Hadi is 'wanted for justice'

February 25, 2015 at 2:16 pm

Houthis in Yemen announced yesterday that the Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi is losing legitimacy and is “wanted for justice”.

Sources revealed that the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of the armed Houthi group issued a statement in which it considered that Hadi “harmed the Yemeni people and their security, stability, economy and lives”.

The committee warned against dealing with Hadi as the head of state, declaring that anyone who does so will be held legally accountable.

Hadi announced his resignation in January after several days of clashes in Sanaa when Houthis attacked the presidential palace and surrounded his residence. He was placed under house arrest on 20 January.

He managed to escape house arrest and go to Aden on Saturday. Upon his arrival to Aden, a stronghold of his supporters, Hadi began to exercise political activities, and he stated that all decisions taken by the Houthis since their occupation of Sanaa on 21 September are invalid and illegitimate.

The president wrote a letter to the parliament stating that he would like to retract his resignation.
