Arms dealer arrested in Tunisia

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior announced yesterday that its units have arrested an Italian arms dealer who entered into a huge arms deal with Libyan partners on Tunisian territory.

The ministry said in a statement that “its security forces arrested an Italian arms dealer at Tunis-Carthage International Airport.”

According to the statement, the Italian arms dealer, who has been followed by the International Criminal Police Organisation, Interpol and the Tunisian security services for a while, was in possession of photographs of high-tech weapons at the time of his arrest.

The statement pointed out that the arms dealer confessed to negotiating an arms deal with Libyan partners in Tunisia that included providing them a million bullets, advanced weapons and a military vehicle worth between $4-5 million.

The Tunisian radio said the Italian is known for being active in Eastern Europe and for selling weapons to combat groups.
