Jordan releases Libyan MPs

March 9, 2015 at 12:12 pm

Jordanian authorities yesterday released four female members of Libya’s Tripoli based parliament after holding them at Queen Alia International Airport, the Anadolu Agency reported.

The MPs were:

  • Magda Al-Falah
  • Huda Al-Banani
  • Mona Kawkalah
  • Fawzia Karwan

Libya’s Justice and Construction Party said: “Four female MPs arrived in Turkey on their way back to Libya.”

The Jordanian authorities detained the women soon after they landed in Amman, one of the deputies told Anadolu.

Magda Al-Falah told that she and three other female members of the General National Congress were denied entry into Jordan and detained at the airport. The other women were Huda Al-Banani, Mona Kawkalah and Fawzia Karwan.

“The detained women were part of a Libyan parliamentary delegation participating in a Libyan national dialogue workshop organised under the auspices of the United Nations,” Al-Falah said.
