March 18, 2015 at 12:31 pm

An Egyptian court sentenced pro-coup journalist Ahmed Musa to two years in prison and ordered him to pay a fine totalling 30,000 Egyptian pounds ($3,932) on charges of insulting and defaming the President of the Democratic Front Party, Osama Al-Ghazali Harb, Jordanian newspaper Assabeel reported yesterday.

Musa pleaded guilty to charges of insulting Harb. The owner of the channel where Musa worked at the time of the incident was set free.

It was reported that Musa broadcasted lies, changed facts, incited hatred and insulted Harb on his show on September 20.

Musa, who was a supporter of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and who supports President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi’s government, accused Harb of taking part in the “conspiracy of January 25”.

He said that Harb received financial support from abroad and accused him of “treason” and “espionage”. Adding that he used to report information to the American and Israeli ambassadors in Cairo and that was the reason he was fired from Al-Ahram newspaper.
