An American pardon for Al-Assad

March 19, 2015 at 3:08 pm

There are no accurate statistics regarding the magnitude of the disaster caused by Bashar Al-Assad’s ruling regime to Syria and its people over the past four years. During this time, he used all forms of deadly weapons against Syria’s populated cities and villages. There are also no conclusive statistics in terms of the number of Syrians killed by the extremist and terrorist forces that came to the country, mostly from across the border. We also do not have any realistic prospects, as of now, for stopping the horrific killing machine in its tracks, neither through so-called political transition of power or through forced change. However, the information that has flowed from behind the high walls of injustice over the past 1,460 days is enough to confirm that the crimes committed by Al-Assad’s army and thugs have outdone any crimes committed by the various armed terrorist groups.

If we compare the two horrific and criminal sides based on the available data relating to their documented and verified crimes, we would find that the ruling regime has and continues to commit what many see as an on-going holocaust in which it has killed, injured and arrested hundreds of thousands of Syrians, in addition to displacing millions by means of warplanes, missiles and heavy artillery, as well as other internationally banned weapons, mainly chemical weapons. On the other hand, the Islamic State (ISIS) and, to a lesser extent, Al-Nusra Front as well as other extremist organisations, committed acts of brutal murder against individuals and ethnic and religious groups, and the estimated toll of their victims is dozens, or hundreds, at worst.

We are dealing with a state that was powerful before, for the sake of eliminating the opposition, it turned to death squads. We also have death squads that emerged early on, before labelling themselves as a state. One type of squad kills people collectively and pictures of the victims are taken with mobile phone cameras in order to spread these pictures as far as possible. The other type of squad plans and calculates its killings in order to film the crime in HD with Hollywood-type directing, in order to spread fear across the world, considering it a means of victory.

If the world, or at least the international community, disregards the similarity between the fascism of the two sides, then they have fallen for the camera tricks. We are now witnessing those who were silent in the face of the horrific genocide committed in history for years rallying their strength to retaliate against the ugly individual crimes that document the killing of a few innocent people.

In the face of this catastrophic scene now taking place in Syria, no one is asking why the international coalition failed to eliminate ISIS six months after declaring war against it. In addition to this, no one is asking why America is refusing the proposal of its allies to expand the war and target Al-Assad’s regime. This is because all analyses and research searching for a rational answer that is based on the innocence and pureness of political science will fail and the gap caused by its absence will be filled with another answer based on conspiracy theory alone. This answer is simply that the creation of those described as Jihadist or Islamist terrorists was the lifesaver for Al-Assad’s regime and an exit for the West from its disgraceful failure in the face of one of the ugliest wars of genocide after World War II.

We also find that inaction or silence will become a thing of the past, as the fourth anniversary of the Syrian revolution coincides with new American positions that promote the conspiracy theory even more. This is because they suggest that the Syrian regime will be given a pardon. This position was initially highlighted in the statement made by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, in which he said there was a possibility of talking with Al-Assad, while CIA Director John Brennan said that the United States does not want the Syrian state institutions to collapse to prevent extremist groups sizing control of Damascus. It is as if the Syrian capital is and has always been in the hands of those protecting the environment or the students of Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi.
