An Egyptian court has sentenced both the wife and son of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed El-Beltagy to six months in prison each with a requirement of a bail of LE 5000 (around $ 660) for stay of execution, according to a judicial source.

The source said the mother and son were convicted of “insulting two of Tora prison’s guards” late last year, during their visit to prisoner Beltagy, according to Anadolu Agency.

According to the source, the judgment is subject to appeal before the highest judicial levels. The prosecution’s accusations against the defendants include libel, slander and the verbal attack on the guards.

Beltagy’s wife Sana Abdul Jawad said: “The judgement is a continuation of the revenge series against Beltagy.”

She said: “For the sake of our homelands and our country, we sacrificed and will further sacrifice, and we will continue what the young and martyrs started, including my daughter’s Asmaa.” Asmaa was killed during the dispersal of the Raba Al- Adaweya sit-in in mid-August 2013.

Abdul Jawad added: “We will not give up until we liberate our homeland as we seek retribution for the blood of the martyrs; such events increase our toughness and strengthen our motivations to stand up against the coup authorities until their coup is defeated, and the martyrs’ rights have been returned back.”
