Egypt urged to reject labelling Qatar and Turkey as supporters of terror

The State Litigation Authority’s lawyer called on a Cairo court to reject lawsuits which demand Qatar and Turkey be classed as countries that support terrorism, judicial sources said.

The lawyer, who represents the government, said the court has no jurisdiction to look into the two lawsuits because they are about a matter related to state sovereignty.

In mid-March an Egyptian court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to look into a lawsuit demanding the government cut ties with Turkey. The court ruled that international relations are a matter related to the state’s sovereignty and are beyond the jurisdiction of the court.

Last month, the Gulf Cooperation Council denounced the Egyptian claims that Qatar supports terrorism, describing them as “unfounded, contradict reality and ignore the sincere efforts by Qatar and Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab states in combating terrorism and extremism at all levels.”
