Khamenei accuses Saudi of genocide in Yemen

April 10, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei slammed the Saudi-led military operation against the Shia Houthi group in Yemen, accusing the kingdom of waging a war of genocide that led to scores of civilian deaths.

“The aggression by Saudi Arabia against Yemen and its innocent people was a mistake. This is a crime and genocide that can be prosecuted in the international courts,” Iran’s semi-official Fars news site quoted Khamenei as saying.

Khamenei said Riyadh’s policy in Sanaa was the result of a “group of inexperienced young men taking over power in Saudi Arabia.”

He likened the Saudi-led military attack in Yemen to Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

“The Zionists are more powerful than the Saudis. However, they could not accomplish their goals in their military operation against Gaza. Gaza is a small region while Yemen is a big country and there are millions of Yemeni people there,” he said.

Khamenei claimed both Saudi Arabia and the United States will be defeated in Yemen.
