Cairo condemns Turkish interference in Egyptian judiciary

The Egyptian foreign ministry has denounced Turkey’s stance over the latest death penalties issued against 14 leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Quds Press reported on Sunday.

According to Quds Press, Turkey described these sentences as “political”. However, Egypt called this an “unacceptable interference in the affairs of the Egyptian judiciary.”

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said that: “We reiterate our complete refusal of the intervention of any country in the work of the Egyptian judiciary or not respecting it and its verdicts.”

The statement claimed that such intervention constitutes a “violation of the basic principles of any democratic authority which respects the principle of separation among the different authorities of the state as well as respects judiciary independence.”

The Turkish foreign ministry has denounced the latest death penalty for Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, and 13 other senior leaders of the organisation.

“We condemn the collective sentences of a political nature, which have been continuous in Egypt since July 2013,” said a statement issued by the Turkish foreign ministry.

The statement went on to say that such sentences, which do not meet international standards, will not help to achieve sustainable stability in Egypt.
