Ethiopia confirms murder of nationals in Libya by ISIS

April 20, 2015 at 1:53 pm

Ethiopia has confirmed that dozens of men murdered recently by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Libya were Ethiopian.

In a statement, the government said it had relied on numerous sources to confirm that the victims, shown in a recent video, were Ethiopian migrant workers in Libya.

The government also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and voiced anger for the carnage.

Ethiopia’s parliament is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the issue, the statement noted.

A video released by ISIS yesterday purportedly shows the execution of dozens of Ethiopian Christians by the group’s affiliates in two different parts of Libya.

The video shows over 15 dark-skinned men wearing black suits purportedly being shot in the head in the southern Fezzan region.

It shows another ten people, also dark-skinned but wearing orange jumpsuits, being beheaded on the coast of Libya’s northern Barqa region.
