Anti-ISIS air strike statistics released by US embassy in Baghdad

The US Embassy in Baghdad said on Monday that the international coalition has launched 3,200 air strikes against ISIS sites over the past 8 months, Anadolu has reported. Almost 5,800 sites operated by ISIS have been destroyed in the process, it is alleged.

“The air strikes have led to the destruction of 75 tanks and 285 vehicles,” said the embassy on its Facebook page, “as well as over 1,166 combat sites and 151 oil refinement installations run by the organisation.”

More than 1,900 of the strikes targeted ISIS in Iraq. “These have stripped the group of its military capabilities,” claimed the US. The air strikes resulted in the militant group losing between 25 to 30 per cent of the populated territories it had seized in Iraq, the embassy statement added. “Iraqi forces were able to restore vital parts of the country, including Mosul dam, north, Mount Sinjar, west of Mosul, Diyala, northeast and Tikrit, near Kirkuk north areas.”

The United States leads a coalition of more than 60 Arab and Western countries against ISIS over large areas in Syria and Iraq seized by the militants last year. The coalition began its offensive in August last year in Iraq before expanding its operations across the border into Syria.
