May 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm

At least 10 people, including six children, have been killed after the Syrian army dropped a barrel bomb on a preschool on Sunday in the northern city of Aleppo, according to local hospital officials.

In addition to the six children, four teachers were also killed, according to a field hospital official.

“At least 10 people were killed and another 18 were wounded after a helicopter belonging to (Bashar Al-) Assad’s forces dropped a barrel bomb on a preschool in the Salah al-Din district,” a field hospital official told Anadolu Agency.

Eight of the 18 injured are in critical condition and in need of urgent medical help, added the official.

“People remain under the rubble and civil defence teams are working to rescue them with the help of heavy machinery,” said a local activist, adding that the building had been completely destroyed in the attack.

Syria’s civil conflict, which has entered its fifth year, has left tens of thousands of people dead and millions of others displaced both internally and externally.
