Israeli military training damages Palestinian farms in Nablus

May 4, 2015 at 2:30 pm

Israeli occupation forces started military training on Sunday to the east of the West Bank city of Nablus, causing severe damage to crops on Palestinian farms, Quds Press has reported. Eyewitnesses said that the Israelis brought heavy military equipment to the area, including tanks and other armoured vehicles, and started firing, causing huge panic among local residents.

Anti-settlement activist Hamza Deriyeh told Quds Press that the Israeli occupation army has, in an unprecedented move, set up complete military camps in the past two weeks in the north of the Jordan valley. He revealed that the Israelis had told dozens of Palestinian families to leave their homes before the training began. Many other families were evacuated forcefully from their houses early on Sunday morning without prior notice.

Deriyeh pointed out that such training causes severe damage to crops, especially the all-important wheat. The training also turns such areas into a closed military zone and the residents cannot have access to their farms until the end of the exercises.

The Israeli occupation forces carry out such training frequently, leaving the Palestinian residents feeling extremely unsettled and facing damage to crops and property. The locals do not feel at all safe in their farms, supporters said.
