IESCO condemns French call to ban Islam

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (IESCO) has condemned the call by a French official that Islam should be banned in France by 2027, Quds Press reported on Sunday.

Mayor Robert Chardon of the Southern French city of Venelles tweeted multiple times on Thursday that “Islam will be banned in France on Oct. 18, 2027.” The official claimed that he is going to propose an amendment to the French constitution in order to prevent the introduction of material recognising Islam in the country.

“This call for racism reflects hatred towards Islam and its followers in France,” said IESCO. “It contradicts the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN resolution for the respect of all religions and not to defame them.”

The organisation hailed the decision of the Union Party to freeze Chardon’s membership pending a decision regarding his dismissal.
