Israeli court keeps Jarrar in detention

May 29, 2015 at 2:03 pm

The Ofer Military Court yesterday accepted the prosecution’s appeal against the court’s earlier decision to release Palestinian Member of Parliament Khalida Jarrar, and sentenced her to prison until the end of the proceedings, based on secret evidence.

Jarrar’s lawyer, Mahmoud Hassan, told Arab48 that “the court’s decision is unconstitutional and illegal because it is based on secret material presented by the prosecution, and we could not see this material or know anything about it.”

Hassan added that the court’s decision is unjust and illegal, and that the occupation is cracking down on Jarrar because of her support for prisoners and her stance on Palestinian pursuit of membership of the International Criminal Court. Describing the court’s decision as “retaliation”.

Hassan said to uphold the law, the court should have informed the defence of the evidence on which it based its decision.
