June 1, 2015 at 3:10 pm

The Moroccan delegate to the minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mbarka Buaadh, has welcomed what she described as France’s “firm position” on the Western Sahara and Paris’ support for the self-autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco.

According to a statement issued by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Buaadh’s comments came during talks held last Thursday evening with French minister of foreign affairs and international development, Laurent Fabius. In the meeting, Buaadh affirmed that the Moroccan proposal for autonomy in Western Sahara constitutes a serious and credible base in order to seek a final political solution acceptable to all parties in this regional conflict.

According to the statement, the two officials exchanged views on Moroccan-French relations and a number of regional issues including the situation in Libya, Mali and the Middle East, as well as illegal immigration.
