Calls on Iraqi PM to stop indiscriminate shelling of Fallujah

The National Iraqi Alliance yesterday called on the Iraqi government to stop the “indiscriminate shelling” of the city of Fallujah in Anbar, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Member of Parliament from the National Alliance, Hamid Al-Mutlaq, said during a press conference: “Over the last few days, the indiscriminate aerial and ground shelling of the city of Fallujah has led to the death of 19 people, and injured 76 others.”

Al-Mutlaq called on Iraq Prime Minister and Commander of the armed forces, Haider Al-Abadi and the Joint Special Operations Command to stop “the atrocities and the targeting of unarmed civilians in the city”.

He said the “erroneous and hostile sectarian politics that do not distinguish between the guilty and the innocent are what brought the country to this situation,” warning of the continuation of this policy, which he described as “hostile”.

The Alliance, led by Vice President Ayad Allawi, includes Shia and Sunni Iraqis as well as liberals, clerics and tribal leaders.
