Abbas meets Jordanian prince over FIFA crisis

June 3, 2015 at 1:04 pm

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday met Jordanian Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein in Amman to end the crisis over the FIFA proposal, Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

Abbas and the prince discussed the mutual relations between the PA and Amman. “Thanks to Allah, our relations have been and are always very strong,” the prince said. “We are brothers and you are always our supporters and we are your supporters.”

Meanwhile, Abbas described the meeting as “intimate” and said that “Jordanians and Palestinians are one nation and whatever bad deeds happened in either side would never affect their strong relations.”

The meeting came after the prince withdrew from the race to become chief of FIFA and after dropping the Palestinian bid to suspend Israel’s FIFA membership.

After the bid to ban Israel was dropped, news reports revealed that Palestinian Football Association chief Jibril Al-Rajoub supported Joseph Blatter’s attempt to remain head of FIFA causing a crisis between the PA and Amman.

Al-Rajoub denied the reports on Facebook.
