UK: Assad is greatest recruiter for ISIS

Britain is to increase its support of the Iraqi government in its fight against Islamic State (ISIS), the foreign minister said yesterday, adding that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad was “one of the greatest recruiting sergeants” for the group.

British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond said: ” The global coalition is united and committed to defeating ISIL,” using another acronym for the group.

The coalition’s military activities, especially its airstrikes, led to stopping ISIS’s advance, he explained. While the ground troops are gradually leading to a reduction in the land under ISIS’s controlled.

“I am proud to say the UK has played a leading role, providing the second-biggest overall contribution to airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq.”

With regards to the Paris conference held on Tuesday to discuss the threat of ISIS, Hammond said it had been “an opportunity to reaffirm our support for Iraqi forces, and assess what more we can do as a coalition”.
