Cairo protests against US welcome for Egyptian Brotherhood members

June 10, 2015 at 11:53 am

The Egyptian foreign ministry has summoned the US Ambassador in Cairo, Stephen Beecroft, to express concern and outrage at a visit of Muslim Brotherhood figures to Washington for the second time, diplomatic sources revealed.

The first visit was held in January when members of the US State Department and other institutions received a delegation from the Egyptian Revolutionary Council, which includes members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The sources told Quds Press that Beecroft informed Cairo that the US officials do not intend to meet with the Egyptian opposition group that is currently visiting the United States.

It is reported that the Egyptian opposition delegation includes representatives of the Egyptian Revolutionary Council, including: Wael Haddara, a leader of the Brotherhood who worked as a foreign affairs consultant to former President Mohamed Morsi; Maha Azzam, head of the Brotherhood-backed Egyptian Revolutionary Council in Turkey; Amro Derag, secretary-general of the dissolved Freedom and Justice Party; Gamal Heshmat, Brotherhood leader and head of the interim parliament in exile; Judge Walid Sharabi; and Mohammed Mahsoub, vice president of El-Wasat Party.
