'Blair met with Meshaal' in Doha to discuss Gaza situation

June 11, 2015 at 3:11 pm

Informed Palestinian-Egyptian sources claim that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair met with the head of the Hamas political bureau, Khaled Meshaal, in Doha a few weeks ago. According to Sama news, they discussed the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip and how to address it.

The sources said that Blair also discussed the truce and the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, as well as the reconstruction process. Although it is alleged that they discussed ways to prevent the deteriorating situation from exploding, the sources did not reveal the nature of the proposals given to Meshaal by Blair during the visit, which was both secretive and private.

Blair flew out of Cairo International Airport on Monday evening after a visit to Egypt, during which he met with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. The former prime minister offered Shoukry his vision for the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the means to resume the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis based on agreed-upon international reference points.

The discussion in Cairo also touched on the situation in the Gaza Strip and ways to push forward international efforts to implement the pledges made at the international donor conference for Gaza held in the Egyptian capital last October.
