Saudi forces clash with Houthis along Yemen border

June 11, 2015 at 1:38 pm

Saudi Special Forces engaged in violent clashes with armed Houthis at the border areas of Khoba, Jabal Al-Dukhan and Jabal Rumaih in Jizan, located near the Kingdom’s border with Yemen, an Al-Jazeera correspondent reported.

The correspondent also noted that the Saudi forces thwarted Houthi attempts to infiltrate the Saudi border, adding that intermittent clashes between the two sides continued throughout the night.

Apache helicopters carried out air operations to stop the attempts to infiltrate the Saudi border and bombed clusters of armed Houthi fighters, he said. The helicopters also carried out sweep operations across the western side of the mountain range separating the two countries adjacent to Jizan.

A number of mortar and RPG missiles targeted the area surrounding the Saudi military sites in Jizan, while a number of Katyusha rockets were fired on Jizan, targeting residential areas in the centre of the city.

The Renewal of Hope coalition announced on Monday that two Saudi soldiers were killed in Asir, in south Saudi Arabia. They died as a result of missiles fired from Yemen. This was two days after they announced the death of four Saudi military officials during the Saudi forces’ thwarting of a large-scale attack launched by forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthis on military sites in Najran and Jizan.
