Iranian IAEA envoy: Nuclear deal possible by end of June

June 12, 2015 at 9:52 am

A final nuclear deal between the world powers and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme is “achievable” by the 30 June deadline, Anadolu Agency reported Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Reza Najafi, as saying.

“If the political will of our interlocutors continues to exist and they commit to the agreed parameters… an agreement by the end of June is achievable,” Najafi told reporters in Vienna.

Najafi said his country has continued to adhere to the implementation of the voluntary measures of the Joint Plan of Action which has been continuously monitored and confirmed by the agency and reported on a monthly basis.

When asked whether Iran would implement additional nuclear transparency measures which include allowing inspectors access to military sites, the Iranian official said this should await the final text of any deal.

Iran and the six world power – the US, Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia – began a new round of talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, two weeks ago aimed at drafting a final framework deal.

They had reached a preliminary deal on 2 April in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Western countries express concern that Iran has the potential to produce nuclear weapons, but Iran insists that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful.
