White House denies changing policy with Muslim Brotherhood

The White House denied media reports that the US administration was cutting its ties with the Muslim Brotherhood.

A delegation from the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party and the Egyptian Revolutionary Council is visiting the United States this week but no one from either the State Department or the White House is meeting with the delegation, prompting speculations that the White House was cutting its ties with the group.

“There has been no change in our policy with respect to the Muslim Brotherhood,” White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest said Friday in response to a reporter’s question.

US news site Breitbart said Earnest did not offer any explanation on the US administration decision to not meet with the Muslim Brotherhood representatives this week.

“I don’t have a detailed explanation for you, other than to say that we are going to choose when is the appropriate time to meet with these foreign interlocutors,” Earnest said.

“We’ve obviously met with the Muslim Brotherhood in the past, as recently as early this year. But on this visit, no one from the administration will be meeting with them,” he added.

US news site The Blaze reported Earnest as saying that “the Obama administration and the United States routinely engage with representatives from across the political spectrum in all countries around the world.”
