HRW calls for Kuwait to release blogger

June 19, 2015 at 2:36 pm

Human Rights Watch yesterday called on the Emir of Kuwait to release blogger Saleh Saeed who was sentenced to prison because of tweets he published on disagreements between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

Germany’s international broadcaster DW reported on its website that HRW had demanded the Emir remove the six-year prison term imposed on the blogger.

The Kuwaiti Court of Cassation upheld the prison sentence last week regarding the tweets on the disagreements between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia about the oil region around their mutual border, and their opposing positions of the Gulf States against the Syrian regime.
