Morocco: Algeria exploits the African Union to undermine our image

The Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar accused Algeria of exploiting the African Union to distort Morocco’s image.

During his meeting with the Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, on Wednesday in Rabat, Mezouar asserted that “Morocco is strong with its rights, the Moroccan identity of its Sahara, its strong national unity, and the sacredness of its territorial integrity.” He noted that “it is sad that Algeria exploits the African Union to misrepresent Morocco.”

Relations between Algeria and Morocco have been strained for decades following the conflict over the Sahara, where the land border between the two countries remains closed since 1994.
